This section explains some of the commonly used poker terms.
8 low hand
A hand valuation used in hi-lo split pot games. An 8 low comprises the 5 lowest unpaired cards all under 8. If a 5 card low hand cannot be made then that player has no low and is not considered for the low half of the pot. If no player in the hand has a valid 8 low hand then the entire pot is awarded to the best high hand.
An Omaha hand that has a high probability of making a straight, usually containing consecutive cards such as 7, 8, 9, T. This definition can include 1-gapper and 2-gapper hands (hands with consecutive cards but with gaps in between).
A scoop occurs when a single player wins all parts of the pot in a split pot game, such as Omaha Hi-Lo split. It can also refer to winning all hands in a Chinese poker matchup.
